This position will be an integral member of the Institutional Value team, responsible for leading strategy, performance management and business development for national impact programs.

 

This role will require direct collaboration and influence with financial and data teams, as well as market stakeholders to drive execution and delivery. With responsibility for a variety of functions related to diligence and business planning, this position is accountable for the direction, performance, and impact of the team’s programs through various layers of management and senior leaders.

 

Scope – This role will be responsible for coordination and completion of product, service or process decisions and program deliverables across various business/functional areas and multiple markets/sites.

Job Summary:

This position will be an integral member of the Institutional Value team, responsible for leading strategy, performance management and business development for national impact programs.

With responsibility for a variety of functions related to diligence and business planning, this position is accountable for the direction, performance, and impact of the team’s programs through various layers of management and senior leaders.

 

Scope – This role will be responsible for coordination and completion of product, service or process decisions and program deliverables across various business/functional areas and multiple markets/sites.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Leads the strategy, diligence and business planning of clinical interventions across Optum Health markets, with a focus on clinical effectiveness and impact to medical expense
  • Leads reporting and performance management of existing institutional value programs, synthesizing information according to respective audiences
  • Work in this role impacts multiple markets and sites at a national scale
  • Develops business cases for new programs, and owns initial market-facing presentations and overall market/key stakeholder relationships
  • Uses data to drive prioritization/feasibility conversations with internal and external audiences
  • Builds/maintains/manages market stakeholder relationships across multiple layers and functions
  • Plans and facilitates regional Steering Committee meetings
  • Ensures performance is tracked accurately utilizing internal tools and processes (e.g., dashboards; scorecards; reports)
  • Conducts deep dive program reviews with relevant internal and/or external stakeholders to identify opportunities for continuous improvement
  • Works collaboratively to inform new, innovative, or complimentary program ideas at scale
  • Directs others to resolve highly complex or unusual challenges that affect major functions or disciplines with an iterative process for continuous improvement
  • Interacts with senior management by providing thoughtful analysis on key decision points to drive initiatives forward
  • Demonstrates understanding of budgeting and forecasting tools, terminology, and processes
  • Analyzes program performance and variances throughout the year, with the ability to recommend and/or make necessary adjustments and corrections
  • Demonstrates high levels of Emotional Intelligence while engaging leadership and other stakeholders
  • Support/develop/ensure understanding of and adheres to relevant policies, procedures, and regulations
  • Trains and educates internal stakeholders on relevant policies and procedures
  • Provides input into, develops, and/or modifies policies and procedures relevant to programs
  • Ensures internal and/or external partners adhere to program agreements

Required Qualifications:        

  • 5+ years of relevant experience (e.g., healthcare consulting, strategy, finance, performance management, data science)
  • Track-record of success with change management in a healthcare setting
  • Ability to synthesize complex data and translate insights into clear, actionable recommendations across clinical, operational, data and finance stakeholders, with the ability to story tell across leadership levels using data
  • Ability to leverage solid financial acumen to analyze budgets, forecasts, and performance metrics
  • Ability to act as a key liaison between data, finance, and operational teams, ensuring seamless collaboration to align financial strategies with data-driven insights while optimizing clinical operations and financial performance
  • Experience driving informed decision-making by analyzing healthcare trends and KPIs
  • Experience performing root cause analysis, preparing and implementing action plans, and leading initiatives
  • Experience collaborating across functions and with all levels of the organization and with outside physicians and potential business partners
  • Willing and able to travel up to 20%

 

Preferred Qualifications:        

  • Proficiency with various forms of healthcare data
  • Proven aptitude for and facility with change management and care transformation processes
  • Congeniality and EQ to influence without authority – candidates must be comfortable with not owning decision-making rights, but finding ways in which to guide conversations over time to the desired outcome(s)
  • Presentation skills to effectively communicate roadblocks, successes, and overall program operations
  • Coachability and flexibility to function in a highly dynamic environment

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with al minimum wage laws as applicable.
